Portal, Puzzle, Pretzel, Pothole – Reception

Ingleside Gallery at Ballast Coffee opens “Portal, Puzzle, Pretzel, Pothole,” a focused look at Matt Goldberg’s newest collage work. These pieces move between play and precision, building on years of quiet experimentation in his studio.

Visitors will see compositions shaped by pop culture, art history, and the textures of secondhand books. The work carries the same instinctive energy found in his ceramics, stretching and shifting space with a clear sense of humor and rhythm.

Guests are invited to get an early look at the full series at the reception, where the collages will be shown together for the first time. It’s a chance to see how these studio explorations have grown into a confident and fully formed body of work.

Ingleside Gallery

Curated shows for overlooked artists in
San Francisco’s neighborhoods

Ingleside Gallery began as a grassroots pop-up in the Ingleside and has grown into a citywide project showcasing emerging Bay Area artists. From cafés to barbershops, we create space for art that deserves to be seen—uplifting local and underrepresented voices.

Founded by artist Shrey Purohit, the gallery is powered by neighbors, volunteers, and art lovers. What started as a small community effort is now a growing platform where contemporary art and everyday life meet.

Visit us at:

  • Ballast Coffee – 329 West Portal Ave (since 2021)

  • People’s Barber – 1259 Polk St (since 2025)
