Ingleside Gallery at Ballast Coffee presents SAUDADE, a solo exhibition by Brazilian multidisciplinary artist Lucas Antony. Born in Manaus, in the Brazilian Amazon, and based in San Francisco, Antony works across painting, photography, and ceramics. Since 2021 he has seen life through orange and blue — a self-imposed constraint that became a source of freedom, and a visual signature that carries across every medium he touches.

SAUDADE gathers works from Plumage, This Is Not Mykonos, and future bodies of work introduced throughout the run. Saudade, the Portuguese word at the show's center, is usually rendered as longing. Antony reaches for something wider. Here it is movement: the thread between where we come from and who we are still becoming, the warmth of a place that goes on living inside us long after we've left. The exhibition is not about geography. It is about what survives geography.

Orange and blue run through the work as emotional coordinates rather than symbols — warmth and distance, sunrise and water, presence and absence. They are a reminder that home is not always a place. Sometimes it is simply the light we carry. Built to stay unfinished, the show evolves while it is on view, mirroring the migration, memory, and identity it draws from.

"We were meant to move. Across countries, across languages, across identities, across versions of ourselves," says Antony. "At its core, SAUDADE asks a simple question: how do we remain ourselves while constantly becoming someone new?"

Lucas Antony's path to painting ran through pharmacy, pastry, and more than sixty countries. Raised on a traditional trajectory in Manaus, he earned a degree in pharmacy and worked years behind a counter while quietly building parallel worlds through photography and travel. In 2019 he left a fixed career for an uncertain one in the arts; his first photographic series, Agonia, marked that crossing, holding the tension between fear and freedom that still runs through his practice. Working now across photography, painting, and ceramics, he isolates fragments, plays with proximity, and elevates moments easily overlooked, asking the viewer to slow down and notice light as it shifts. His solo and duo exhibitions include Echoes of Home at the Presidio Theatre (2026) and I See Life in Orange and Blue at UPSIDE SF (2025), with recent group shows at SOMArts, the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts, and the Kala Institute, and a 2025 profile in Casa Vogue Brasil. He lives and works in San Francisco.
